Ski helmet with visor | With these tips you keep the ski helmet visor beautiful!

Close your ski helmet visor when entering the ski lift !

One of the advantages of a ski helmet with visor is that you can easily open and close the visor. It's nice if you have to wait at the ski lift when the weather is nice so you can enjoy the sun! Just don't forget to close the visor when entering the ski lift. If you get into a chairlift, for example, you can use the braces to scratch your visor! This is because the visor protrudes above the ski helmet. Once in the chairlift you can quickly and easily open the visor with your gloves on to enjoy the sun. When getting out of the car don't forget to close the ski helmet visor.

By the way, some skiers raise their sights in sunny weather and then put on their sunglasses. Personally, I don't do that, because then you no longer have the benefit of the wide panoramic view of the piste. Your face is also less well protected and unnecessary if you use a visor suitable for sunny weather. This can be a ski helmet with a coloured visor (photochromic visor) or a category 2 or 3 visor. You can also order a ski helmet visor separately, for a different weather type or look. We have separate ski helmet visors from CP, Kask, Slokker, Osbe and Bollé.

This is the best way to clean your ski helmet visor.

ski helmet visor cleaning with microfibre clothClean the visor with plenty of lukewarm water without additives. Never use solvents or household cleaners! Use a dry, clean microfibre cloth (see picture opposite) and clean the visor without pressure on the outside. In any case, do not use any other cloth, such as a tea towel or towel. It is better not to do anything on the inside of the visor, as this is where the anti-fog layer can be damaged. If you can't help it, let a little water run into the visor and go over it quietly with your finger.

Example ski helmet visor with poor side sealMany ski helmets with visor do not have a good seal all around, so you can get snow inside. This is very annoying when skiing, because your foam gets wet as well. Once you are in the ski lodge, of course you want the visor to be dry. Then don't make the mistake of drying the ski helmet with visor over a heater! The visor is made of plastic and that can easily deform, including the foam edge on the underside. So when the visor is wet due to snow, knock it dry and let the helmet and visor dry quietly.

When should you replace a visor?

All parts of a visor are exposed to an ageing process, also depending on treatment and care during use. With careful storage (cool, dry) the life expectancy of a CP visor is up to 10 years. For safety reasons, manufacturers recommend replacing the ski helmet visor after 5 years at the latest. The ski helmet visor should also be checked for any damage before use and after every fall. If there is any suspicion of physical or chemical damage, replace the visor.

How to protect the visor after a skiing day

ski helmet visor protection coverLet the visor and ski helmet dry at room temperature after your skiing day. It is best to store the ski helmet with visor in a ski helmet bag. In order to protect the visor even better, even during the apres ski, we have a special ski helmet visor protection cover. This cover is from the ski helmet brand CP but is universal and also on visors of other brands easy to apply.

Scratched visors are also excluded from any warranty, so be careful with your ski helmet visor!
